Erectile Dysfunction

Struggling to get or keep an erection isn’t something you have to just live with, and it’s rarely about age alone. Erectile dysfunction is one of the most common concerns men bring to Awakin Men’s Health, and in most cases, there’s a clear physical or hormonal reason behind it.

WHAT'S BEHIND IT

What's Really Driving It

Erectile dysfunction rarely comes down to one single cause, but a few factors show up again and again in the men we see.

Declining testosterone

Testosterone plays a direct role in erectile function and sexual response, and as levels decline, ED often follows. This is one of the most common reasons men come to us with erectile dysfunction that hasn't improved with over-the-counter options alone.

Poor blood flow

Healthy erections depend on strong blood flow, so cardiovascular health, blood pressure, and circulation all play a role in how consistently you're able to perform.

Stress and mental health

Anxiety, depression, and chronic stress can all interfere with arousal and performance, often creating a cycle where worry about ED makes the problem worse.

Certain medications

Some prescriptions, including certain blood pressure medications, antidepressants, and antihistamines, can interfere with erectile function as a side effect, which is why a full medication review is part of your evaluation.

Chronic health conditions

Diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol can all damage blood vessels and nerves over time, making it harder to achieve or maintain an erection even when hormone levels look otherwise normal.

Alcohol and smoking

Both can damage blood vessels and reduce blood flow over time, and heavy or frequent use often makes ED more difficult to resolve even once other causes are addressed.

QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ED always caused by low testosterone?

Not always, but it’s one of the most common and treatable causes. Lab work helps confirm whether testosterone is playing a role in your case.

Those options treat symptoms temporarily but don’t address an underlying cause like low testosterone or poor blood flow. We look deeper to find what’s actually driving your ED.

It’s common, but common doesn’t mean untreatable. Many men see real improvement once the underlying cause is identified and addressed.

Everything starts with comprehensive blood work and a review of your health history. Your plan is built around your actual results, not a standard protocol.

Many men report improvement within the first few weeks of treatment, with fuller results building over two to three months.

Our practice is based in Omaha, NE, but many services are available across Nebraska through telehealth visits and at-home medication delivery.
